Use pins to hold the bottom fabric in place while you're sewing.
I hand-sewed the entire bag so far without use of a sewing machine, but I didn't know how to use one...
Oh, and as for the flaps at the bottom of the back of the bag, just sew those against the bottom by turning the bag inside out, but making it so that you could see where you're stitching at along the edges.
